Tips for Making Your Website More User-Friendly

Posted in Web Design Tips | by Charles Souders

Have you ever visited a web site to look for products or information, only to become frustrated because the website was poorly constructed? After spending several minutes struggling with the site, you just give up and go to another website. This scenario has happened to every internet user at one time or another. As a website owner though, it is important to make sure that this does not happen to your visitors. It would be unfortunate to lose highly valuable visitors simply because of some mistakes that can easily be corrected.

There are many strategies you can use to make your website look and feel more user-friendly. User-friendliness should be one of the main priorities of your website, together with search engine optimization, marketing, and content. Remember that if you make it difficult for visitors to navigate, they will simply stop visiting your web site and look somewhere else and in the end your business will ultimately suffer because of this. Fortunately, there are several effective web design techniques that can help make your site more user-friendly:

Use High Contrast for Content Areas
If the reader’s eyes feel strained, there is a good chance that they won’t finish reading you’re content and they will be discouraged from visiting the other pages of your website. Choose colors with higher contrast for your websites body text, such as black text on a white/ light colored background or white text on a black/dark colored background.

Limit the Number of Advertising Banners
A few advertisements on the website are acceptable, probably even expected by the reader. But having advertisements on the header, the sidebar, text advertisements, and banner advertisements between paragraphs can be irritating. Readers don’t want to be bombarded with advertisements when looking for information. It makes them feel used.

Make Sure Your Site Loads Fast
It is important to ensure that your site loads quickly. Otherwise, site visitors will exit your website and find another one that doesn’t waste their time. This is a very important factor in creating a user-friendly website because people won’t stick around if your site takes ages to load.

Add a Blog and Update It Regularly
Having a blog on your website is a great way to include fresh and relevant content for your visitors. It also makes your site more appealing to major search engines, especially if new information is uploaded on a regular basis. At the same time, it allows visitors to have a reason to come back to the website. If you already have a blog on your site, ask yourself whether you are updating it regularly, providing relevant information to your visitors and using effective keyword phrases that will make it more attractive to search engines.

You need to make sure you have very decent and quite user friendly navigation in your website. It should be uncluttered and concise so that visitors can easily understand the navigation around your dental website without any discombobulating feeling. Many web design companies focus on specific industries. The richness of the content, facilities and functionalities provided to the patients drives them to pick your businesses. Many web design companies have been thriving in these times of recession. And their designs and marketing strategies have benefited their customers by attracting patients to their businesses.
